2023 Yunomi Invitational by AKAR

Date TBD, Summer 2023

Definition of Yunomi (U-No-Me): a cup with a trimmed or turned foot, without a handle. Unlike the more formal Chawan tea bowl, which is used during the Japanese tea ceremony, the Yunomi is made for daily (or informal) tea drinking. While a Chawan is not too tall or narrow for vigorous whisking of tea and is held with two hands, a Yunomi is taller, not as wide, and used mostly to drink tea made with tea leaves and is held with one hand. Remember, this tea bowl is not a tumbler, a sake cup, or a noodle bowl. Each artist is encouraged to make their own interpretation of the Yunomi using their personal style.
