In this workshop, we will investigate wet surface decoration techniques such as carving, stamping, Mishima, Sgraffito, water carving, sprigs, resist, trailing, and underglaze painting in order to express yourself in ceramics. By reviewing and testing a wide variety of techniques, you are guided to develop your own visual language. There will be exercises on how to articulate your stories as well. Working with tiles and three-dimensional structures, we will explore how forms and surface treatments can enhance each other. A majority of the techniques presented in this workshop can be applied to any firing temperature and clay.
